On Holiday —-Sort Of!

On Holiday —-Sort Of!
Hello Mother, hello Father – Iv’e arrived at camp pajama. Well of course that’s not right and I am not that old and probably neither are you (You may be able to ask someone.) Back there in the blog. I mentioned Peter S and I guess this is the time. But as I frame and flash back  it may make no sense, so all will eventually be mumbled out and no conclusions made. I have none myself but this is sort of how it happened…… What were you doing in  the summer of 1983? I have a letter. kindly forwarded to my by my Father that I sent to them, Mum and Dad.( I received this in 2010 and have been staring at it ever since. right up to the point it took me two days to find.) Dad was an adventurer and I am sure much to Mum’s disquiet paid for my 1983 Inter Rail card. For you North Americans one month of unlimited rail travel all over Europe, I am sure you can  imagine, (Well sorry, I guarantee all your  imaginings fall short,  I don’t have a word for what It, it was weirder. Your imaginings will be short of the mark. Most of what you are thinking has been over done. (By lots of uncouth Americans ,lol) (see modern language sneaking in). Exploding trousers! (Pants, well either or are quite alarming, we will leave that for another day, I will unedited, unexplained and without a safety net re-veal all.( I mean I will type it out as written only adding photos and the like to illustrate. To you I leave the burden, of making any sense of this at all,   Dear Mother and Father, I thought it was about time I wrote to inform you of all the events that have taken place in the last two days. On the night of the 12th July or the morning if the 13th.Peter suffered some form of heart problem, he had difficulty breathing, his pulse dropped and he was  going unconscious. A  local dude I found up the carriage could speak English, he had some medical knowledge. He gave Peter a heart massage and he improved a bit, we stopped the train and were taken to the local medical center. Peter was given an injection and some tablets,...

The Kitchen Sink

The Kitchen Sink
What the heck, 2 posts in one week! whats going on? Well its been a year since the Blog re-launched I have a steady seven Subscribers ( Its that box on the right saying subscribe) and all is well. Major drive to increase my fan base having no success I have told three more people (look at me go). So its time to throw more resources at it, everything including the Kitchen Sink. As you can see I even employed time travel in order to spice up my past and make myself more interesting, only time will tell if this will work. The penguins have devised a very clever marketing strategy and are offering a riseanddeardemise.ca mug to the 25th subscriber, or more accurately raffling a mug when we get to 25 subscribers. (May be an Antique by then.)     I have made my photo content more available and have signed up for a second Flickr account under the fantastic moniker (no not Monica) Funky Nomad, not to be confused with FunkyNomad that’s the me that builds 40k Space Marines. so what have I put on Flickr? Well so far Charlie Don’t Surf, Kings Croft common room (That’s where I went to school 6th form) and First 35mm, the first roll of 35mm film I took; in which the usual suspects appear. The Hare and Hounds, The Devonshire Arms and The Crown  (Pubs in case you were wondering).  Going forward you can just click on the photo to go straight to it ( If its in an Album in my Photostream, some stuff won’t be) or use the funky new menu button  Flickr Photostreamits at the top of the page.     So what else have I done to entice you funky followers? You can see at the top of the Home page a shiny new Logo, and we have a wordle or what ever it is in the side bar, this was made for my by #1 Daughter for Fathers Day 2 years ago and is as far as she is concerned the essence of who I am to her. I am so impressed with myself through her eyes I have been trying to live up to it ever since. By sporty she means Mountain Walking , Biking, Canoeing  and general summer outdoor stuff. Don’t ask me to kick a football the end results will be...

Kings Croft 83/84

Kings Croft 83/84
After some frantic memory searching and a hiccup in my memories internal time line I now have this great event nailed down sort of. Here are the Black & White photos from Kings Croft common room  circa 1983/84 featuring the band we think were called ECLIPSE thanks Jeremy.  As you can see scattered throughout the band and in the crowd a collection of the usual suspects, all looking ridiculously young and on their best behavior.  I wish I had the soundtrack to go with it. This was the year I got seriously into Photography. Having returned from my first Euro Rail trip and working at the Big Tree ( Temporarily Beefeater at the time a horrible experience  they made me wear a Red and White striped uniform which I would like to say was the most hideous thing I have ever worn but in all honesty I can’t, but it is the one and only time I have been caught in the Red & White I can only say I needed the money for Cameras ). Just to put this period into context (1983) Blackadder debuted and it was the last year for the Professionals and Animal Magic. Spitting Image  and the Tube were  going strong.  (1984) was the last year for The Young Ones. To keep with the rise and demise theme we lost the great Tommy Cooper (Just like that), Eric Morecombe . Leonard Rossiter (The Fall & Rise of Reginald Perin) and Reginald Bosenquet.     So 1983/84 listening to Magazine, Thin Lizzy (As always), Peter Gabriel, Dire Straights & The Blues Breakers. Interests include Photography,Travel and Beer. Albums released in 1983:- ZZ Top : Eliminator.  Duran Duran : Rio.  Def Leppard : Pyromania. Frankie Goes To Hollywood: Welcome to the Pleasuredome. Hanoi Rocks : Back To The Mystery.  Eurythmics : Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This). The Blue Nile : A Walk Across The Rooftops.      ...
