Happy 55

Well Happy Birthday to me. My surprise Birthday trip from the good lady wife to the Philippines pretty fantastic.Part Holiday part recon it was a success. I can state categorically, no phone no wifi no TV is actually the best. Unplugged with intermittent free wifi when its needed..

romantic-interlude

So first the birthday bit, went to Bohol to Pangalo Island and stayed in the same cottage at Alona Kew White Beach as 25 years ago before I asked the good lady to marry me. Its a good job I did it back then as the photo evidence from this trip definitely puts my chances nearer to ZERO. Also Stayed in the Fox and Firefly Echo Lodge pretty awesome and lots of other places.

Well the second part of the trip worked on the LOT  surveying the best location for the cottage.

Its Wet, very Wet, 54 days of summer rain Wet!

We did have 3 days sunshine. Fortunately the three days we went camping. The rest of the time the weather has drowned my tomatoes, Chilies and hot peppers and high winds snapped the branches so had to make chili curry chutney. Various levels of spice all the way to scotch bonnets so not all is lost.   Written absolutely nothing but have just finished the adjustments to my new Antique Oak writing station and have a new Bluetooth keyboard, just need to update the wheels to brass and porcelain, currently 1970 hostess trolley wheels.   New old truck making me very happy. Truck version of the ZR 2 4 x 4 SUV my son rolled. 31″ x 10.5″x 15″ BF Goodrich all-terrain Tyres, 4″ lift and 3″ wider than stock track axles    ( Hence the wide Fender flares) positrack locking diff, Bilstine off road shocks from the factory 4.3l V6.  nice exhaust, sounds the part, especially when you put your foot down oh and Bright Red, Victory Red.   #1 Daughter starts year 2 of her Degree #1 Son starts year 4. And that’s about that, hope everyone is well and things are going to plan. ( Actually thinking about it i did write 490 words in the last chapter of the book. Shame I haven’t done the middle bit or I would have finished by now. Oh well best laid...

# 1 Son thinks it’s Funny!

# 1 Son thinks it’s Funny!

Merry Christmas and what I am hoping is going to be a Happy New Year. # 1 Son thinks it is funny, I am going to try to finish my long awaited book. No not that one or the other one but the one that is Fantasy Fiction. ” The Dark Antiquarian” . # 1 son has no respect for any of my attempts?  No he will not edit, no he will not help with the play , maybe the film script somewhere down the line. For some reason he seems to think to be a writer you actually have to finish a book. Poppycock I say. Where does he get this from? # 1 son at University year 3  Professional Communications, writing, editing and goodness knows what. My story telling. No surely not, but I have to admit he does stand up and is irreverent of me.I was OK, but in early December he rolled my pride and joy , rolled over in the snow and crushed it beyond , well beyond. Yes they are OK, his beat friend and the surprise  puppy for Christmas, Grace I love her but Collie, German Sheppard & Mastiff.   Well what else has happend in glorious 2018, well # 1 Daughter graduated high school and got a place at Grant Mc Ewan university and is doing a BA, undeclared Major yet but probably Psychology, Sociology or Anthropology.     I had Santa send me a prezzie via Amazon and for some reason it was stolen off the door step so they sent me another, Someone is going to be very surprised.   Talking of pressies I was attempting  a Birthday blog and I tracked down some of my recent presents to myself well going back to about 1978, not in any particular order and excluding the ones I drank or ate.   So it only remains to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.    ...

On Holiday —-Sort Of!

On Holiday —-Sort Of!

Hello Mother, hello Father – Iv’e arrived at camp pajama. Well of course that’s not right and I am not that old and probably neither are you (You may be able to ask someone.) Back there in the blog. I mentioned Peter S and I guess this is the time. But as I frame and flash back  it may make no sense, so all will eventually be mumbled out and no conclusions made. I have none myself but this is sort of how it happened…… What were you doing in  the summer of 1983? I have a letter. kindly forwarded to my by my Father that I sent to them, Mum and Dad.( I received this in 2010 and have been staring at it ever since. right up to the point it took me two days to find.) Dad was an adventurer and I am sure much to Mum’s disquiet paid for my 1983 Inter Rail card. For you North Americans one month of unlimited rail travel all over Europe, I am sure you can  imagine, (Well sorry, I guarantee all your  imaginings fall short,  I don’t have a word for what It, it was weirder. Your imaginings will be short of the mark. Most of what you are thinking has been over done. (By lots of uncouth Americans ,lol) (see modern language sneaking in). Exploding trousers! (Pants, well either or are quite alarming, we will leave that for another day, I will unedited, unexplained and without a safety net re-veal all.( I mean I will type it out as written only adding photos and the like to illustrate. To you I leave the burden, of making any sense of this at all,   Dear Mother and Father, I thought it was about time I wrote to inform you of all the events that have taken place in the last two days. On the night of the 12th July or the morning if the 13th.Peter suffered some form of heart problem, he had difficulty breathing, his pulse dropped and he was  going unconscious. A  local dude I found up the carriage could speak English, he had some medical knowledge. He gave Peter a heart massage and he improved a bit, we stopped the train and were taken to the local medical center. Peter was given an injection and some tablets, we were put back on the next train. I was unable to find out what was wrong with him, because the Doctor only spoke Serbo-Croat. I am at a camp-sight outside Bar with five Yugoslavs. .   Peter considered it dangerous to stay abroad, I thought rest would be better. The landscape from the train ride down had been valleys and crazy long span bridges no sign of anything, rugged. A long hard third class train raid  seemed a bit much. (In 1983 there was no spell checker or back space so I will type what is here and crossed out.)  He decided that it would be safer for him .( TO MAKE ME GO WITH HIM)  This might seem selfish but I was not going to travel; back across half of Europe at the expense of my once in a life time long planned adventure. You will probably have heard about it from Peters folks by the time this letter...

Hot and Cold

Hot and Cold

well not a lot of thinking going on over here summer turns to winter and I once again wonder why. Not why the seasons come and go but why here in the bloody cold. I know I prefer hot to cold . SEE                               Well not sure where I am going with this but it dawns on me that If I am to keep memories alive they need to be somewhere other than in a cardboard box. Maybe there is a randomness to it all that does not need to be so heavily curated. I met this guy in a bar has something to do with a local entertainment free paper bands and the like and I remember all that stuff at University so for the heck of it some photos to remind me I Like Rock and Roll.                                ...

Drinking Flying Squirrels!

Drinking Flying Squirrels!

Sitting in the Laundromat drinking Flying Squirrels would normally indicate the summer is here and I am perched in the Rocky Mountains camping, walking and frantically camering. As it happens I am not drinking Flying Squirrels and am there fore not in the Rockies. Unfortunately that non- statement, statement is the only way I can explain the last few months or more exactly, December 28th 2015 to December 28th 2016. That’s the dates between which I wrote nothing, not a word in my novel and only two post on this here Bio Blog. The fact that I can now happily contemplate Flying Squirrels is in fact a good sign. That I am blogging away with little hope of being heard is strangely calming. Oh I still occasionally give my blog address to some one on the odd occasion I peer out from the silence. You see I turned off the voices in my head. No, No, don’t picnic sorry panic; not those sort of voices. The Narrator Voice remember the one I credit with all the ramblings on this blog and the world building in the novel and the life  building in life. You know that day to day stuff that stretches out to make a life time. Together with  the general background noise of existence  and  the anxiety of reality makes for a deafening non-functioning roar. A garbled sense of conversations from the bottom of the swimming pool.  So click, you switch it all off, Yesterday & Tomorrow ™ and you do Today only Today. When the background sounds of interference and static finally ebb as they undoubtedly will if you take the proper steps, the world lazily blooms back into focus and voila!  There is room to contemplate the what if once more, the Narrator wakes up refreshed and timidly service is resumed. The trapped self once again races out into the world and reconnects the pathways and breaths a sigh of contentment.   While I was gone lots of wonderful things have happened the good Lady wife turned into a fantastic photographer Instagramer and image editor. In fact I have stolen a lot of the imagery from here photo files. see we have 500 gb each on a hard drive for our imagery. Mine fills slowly and hers at a pace, she is miraculously recording all our days while I capture a reflection of anonymity ever now and again.   # 1 son graduated High School and got accepted at Grant McEwan University in the Bachelor of Communications course. Which I am very impressed with.   My daughter continues to grow smarter and more beautiful every day and gets grades  that reach the stratosphere and beyond. We Art we craft we write and she has had here 16th Birthday and boy are they loud I mean really loud, louder than Motorhead. And that’s about it for now, what have I managed to achieve during this time? That remains to be seen, every day I am certain I achieved something worth while, it will all add up in my favour sooner or...

In Out In Out Shake it all about.

In Out In Out Shake it all about.

So am I realy going to bang on about the mysteries of the Oaky Cokee? Possibly but not realy, Is it a mysterious reference to BREXIT ? Possibly, possibly not. Is it a conversation about closets, water and otherwise; could be all of these things and none of these things. It could be about taking the Red pill or the Blue pill. Yes that’s it lets talk about the Red pill and the Blue pill (If for some unknown reason you have never seen The Matrix you might need to go watch it and then come back, I will be waiting). Took the red pills once and I must admit they work a treat, they would have worked better if the person they had been prescribed to had actually took them but you can’t help some people. As for the Blue pill, well what the hell am I going to do with a four hour erection? I mean I have approximately 32 minuets and 20 seconds of innovative caring and well practiced moves that I have never had any complaints about. I am not convinced anything I would come up with after that would be entirely sensible or welcome. I do have  a little voice at the back of my head who wants to shout Geronimo and leap of the top of the wardrobe but I have a feeling that may end in disaster or at least a trip to the hospital. So this business about being in or out of the Closet. Makes perfect sense to me obviously in the closet you have the possibility of Narnia or maybe Monsters but its probably pretty safe if you have marauding house jackers or some such. Out of the closet seems perfectly fine too. I grew up with a number of friends who turned out to be no longer in the closet and I can only say that seems like a perfectly sensible solution to the inability to make head nor tails of girls, women, mothers and the female gender of any type. In fact I have it on good authority that I was considered to be very likely to be in the closet one minuet and out the next and that’s perfectly OK by me. Back then and to be honest even today everything seems to be a mystery and one thing as likely as the next, I have a feeling that had I chosen something else men would have been completely unfathomable as well. So a conscious decision was made to understand me, be completely honest and unlikely as it may seem what you see is what you get (and then some)and it only remained to say yes to those who appeared interested and it has buy and large worked out pretty well. So what happens when you can no longer see you, when the world changes so dramatically you no longer recognize it. Of course everything is still there but you no longer seem to have the instruction book no longer recognize the signpost, the voices around you speak in tongues you can’t decipher. Well it’s bloody scary is what it is, it’s paralyzing, time for auto pilot, lights are on but no body is home. Hang on a Minuit I hear someone tapping on the window—-  ...

Stuck in the Middle With You.

Stuck in the Middle With You.

Well not exactly stuck in the middle with you but stuck in the middle with me. The current self stuck between the past self and the future self and having a bit of a rough time of it. There are no obvious outward signs of this unless lack of momentum can be detected, an object at rest. Everything appears the same as yesterday or the week before or even the year before. I will have to admit my middle is a bit more middler than in the past and there appear to be more bills than actual paychecks but I am reliably informed that’s a universal state of affairs. Its not an old fashioned mid life crisis as I think at my age I have probably passed the half way point did not get a fancy sports car or started following #1 sons fashion tastes  I did however rant and rave and stamp my feet and start this Bio Blog that I have been suspiciously absent from. I tell myself SEE I DONE STUFF! I had a life, I got where I was going even though I had no Idea where that was. Its here on the Prairies and its a holding pattern So Whats Next. Why This inertia why does a day seem to last for ever and years fly by. Well its the middle isn’t it there are few things that are any good in the middle. Well i’m assuming its the middle but its just as likely the start or the end its hard to say and i guess at the heart of things that’s the problem. Is my jar of Marmite big enough? Don’t worry I am not going to blather on about Marmite but if you want you can click on the photo and find out what I have to say on the subject. So how did I get stuck in the middle? Maybe I was stuck in the middle from an early age, maybe this is an early sign that I was always going to be searching for alternative ways of doing things. So Clowns to the left of me Jokers to the right here I am. That clown the past me thought it would be a jolly wheeze to not bother getting a degree in something useful or coming up with some brilliant entrepreneurial schemes to make millions. Oh no he thought he would waltz around pointing cameras at things and spending money on beer and other stuff. Getting married to a beautiful women and having fantastic kids  with no real plan how he was going to pay for university and stuff. He didn’t even have the sense to have stupid kids. So here I am day after day having to pay for it all getting up every morning and dragging myself to work with nothing left to show for it other than a pile of paid bills and some very expensive sneakers I fall over every evening when I come in. Because for some unknown reason they are jammed behind the door or perched on the stair case. Now maybe its a plan to put me in an early grave; to get hold of my remaining money. Which I am sad to say is carefully jammed into a savings plan that pretends...

The Ghost of New Years Past

The Ghost of New Years Past

So here we are New year 2016, Christmas is finished and I look backwards! Well that doesn’t sound right I think I don’t look too bad for an old duffer like our new dog Diego who joined us in March 2015 I in solidarity sport a set of almost magnificent whiskers. Any new year resolutions or recommendations for this year  nope the Grumpy Elf has had his editorial rights rescinded and its just me. So to follow the theme boldly set out here is Christmas present.   Here is the Tribe 2015 and yes #1 Son is 6’5″ and #1 Daughter is 5’9″ and Diego well he is shorter, I will have to admit this is the second attempt at a Family photo the first for some reason made me look like a right fat batard, there are rumors as to some sort of resolution that fixes that but apparently I can’t eat cheese, white bread, drink wine or eat curries. (So good Luck Enforcing that then.) Well 2015 was the year I started putting my name on things my Flickr and Instagram account so the Funky Nomad not so incognito and in that spirit I give you the Millennium Falcon (Sorry about that I actually mean the Millennium in the Falklands, because that’s where I was when 1999 rolled into 2000 and all the computers kept running.) With Star Wars coming round once again I thought I would have to get on that band wagon. As for music not listened to much or bought anything in the last 12 months Just classic stuff Ramones, Green Day; dookie and Getz/Byrd Jazz Samba. It also began to dawn on me how awesome the Rolling Stones are and while I was busy being  a rocker it turns out Mod stuff was pretty good as well I have to admit to Liking Paul Weller and I do have  two Specials albums. Which feels disingenuous in light of Lemmys passing. I saw the Bomber Tour and was at the No sleep till Hammersmith gigs and at one point had started embroidering the Hawkwind Spaceritual album cover on my denim jacket only got about one fifth of the way and I will have to admit to removing the Thin Lizzy ( Not sure what that was about.)   So found some negatives from personal projects from the Falklands and although not good enough to print  I sort of like them even back in 1999 they seem to have my vertical Landscape stamp on them.       And that sums up the blog for 2015 Diego Adventure Dog coming in at #1. Total all time viewings 1300 and still only 9 subscribers, but in all honesty been busy . SO MERRY CHRISTMAS GONE AND A HAPPY @)!^....
