Incidents are Bollocks

Well to be honest not listening to the Sex Pistols but you have to love the punk and the graphics on this one and its essential Britishness. So here I am 2 days before I board a plane to the UK knocking out part 2 of the blog from # 1 Son and dear old Dads trip to Jasper 2012. Now you may be asking why I am running 1 year behind, and I have been asking myself the same question. Of course having your site hacked and crashed isn’t very helpful and although WordPress is the greatest thing since sliced bread there is a bit of a learning curve involved.

There is technical stuff how to admin the site install themes and plugins etc . Then there is the question what are you going to put on it , and why. So read some articles on blogging the do’s and dont’s some blogging etiquette (try not to make an arse of yourself straight off the blocks and off you go.)

Whoa Nelly, not so fast have you registered a catchy domain name ? Who is hosting your sight? Where are you getting your content ( Its not good form to steal it, copyright and all that,) do you have enough content ready what about images? are they yours or do they belong to someone else? Just because they are on the internet does not mean they are yours to use as you please ( See copyright and disclaimers for some idea of how it goes,) I spent quite a while trying to get that right before I started. So you have all these ideas how’s your writing style, your tone ,voice etc. Can you keep it consistent do you have time to carefully craft interesting posts ( even if no one is going to read them?)

I have 40 odd years of my past to blog about and hopefully 40 odd more to come and as I am defective in an unusual way. ( No, not that way) I have a narrator in my head carefully placing my actions and experience into a story as I go, now I understand not everyone has this going on and can actually sleep at night but what the heck for once this disturbing inner monologue might just come in handy. As I am only pleasing myself so to speak I think I am set. On the off chance I get followers, well I better do my best, no going off half cocked , only fully cocked for me these days all cock up not cock ups…..

So what I am saying is it takes a lot longer than you would think so here we are one year behind.

The-Funky-Nomad

So last year while on our Jasper camping trip taking a  recommendation of a friend # 1 Son and I head out to Horseshoe Lake a popular summer swimming and cliff jumping location the highest being a good 80′. Incidentally it is no accident that the picture shows me in the deepest water I got into on this trip. The incident that followed was no accident although accidents were avoided and not avoided as the day unfolded.

Incidents are Bollocks

  1. # 1 Son requests permission to walk over the logs, after a small observation by myself as to the likely reaction from Mum when we got home with a broken leg, arm etc or indeed without a # 1 Son  the potential accident was avoided.
  2. Son accidentally comments that this just look’s like the place where Bilbo Bagging had his run in with the Trolls, stunned silence this incident will not be mentioned again well unless you consider this blog as repeating it, as its not well read and #1 Son does not subscribe I think I am OK.
  3. Incidentally the last image in the triptych never happened no 80″ swan dives for us just one of those fun content shots especially fabricated for storyline sorry about that.

What follows however was no accident but carefully engineered by humorous father who using such encouraging comments as its does not look that cold, I can see a definite path; no not too deep or that looks like a shallower path on the way back and yes a big stick will help . Its not my Bollocks that have to suffer the indignanty of very cold Rockie Mountains water. I am not saying I haven’t been known to plunge my naked self including tackle (or Junk as they say here in Canada. You have no idea how much trouble I have with Tea bags.) into freezing water quite capable of swimming in the Firth of Fourth or North Sea naked after a few Brandy Sours so I know how nut crushingly cold it is, but he seems to be smiling so it can’t bee all bad.

So the next post should find me blogging from the UK, I have to rush off to the Mall for a hair cut some undershirts and pick up my medication, and yes it does work but not in the way you think.
